Letter from the Editor-In-Chief

On behalf of the editorial board it is my pleasure to introduce you to the first issue of volume 3 of the Spanish Journal of Soil Science. During the last year, the SJSS has achieved a high degree of access with a monthly average of 600 hits, and with its first indexing in databases such as Agricola, Directory of Open Access Journals, Latindex, Redalyc, ICYT, Dialnet and Google Scholar, ensures the visibility of the published papers and their potential for citation in future research. The process for inclusion in other prestigious indexing systems has also been initiated, but although the SJSS meets the required quality indicators, the Journal can only be indexed in these systems after a longer period in publication. The editorial board of SJSS manages the manuscript selection process and reviews, which are rigorously carried out by the collaboration of referees using a peer review system to ensure the quality of the journal. The appearance of the fifth issue of SJSS and the maintained scientific quality requirements will undoubtedly further encourage reference to the published articles and promote the continued submission of quality work, thereby ensuring the continuity of the journal and its future indexing in the SCI. This corresponds well to the target proposed at the launch of this publishing project by the Spanish Society of Soil Science (SECS), the National Research Council (CSIC) and Universia: to build the SJSS into an international soil science reference journal.
